2018 | carpet used for 54 years in the same place | 80 cm x 160 cm

This hand-knotted carpet was lying in my grandparents‘ flat for 54 years. Every step through the door contributed, over the years, to the disappearance of the original carpet‘s motif and at the same time to the creation of a new composition. If the carpet would have been woven, it might have been ripped over the years, but the act of knotting, which has been done by hands of one or more persons, even longer before my grandparents bought this beautiful piece of women-made artisan craftsmanship, held the structure together. Only the woolen surface was taken off by the thousands of steps of mainly my grandma, when she stepped on the balcony to hang laundry, to wave goodbye to her daughter or grandchildren or to take a rest during domestic maintainance work.
