2016/2020 | contact-sensitive, highly pigmented ultramarine, emulsion paint, beer benches, visitors | Exhibition view WÄNDE I WALLS, Kunstmuseum Stuttgart 2020

Visitors are invited to sit down on the benches. The friction that occurs when leaning against the wall will leave traces in the blue colour area. Each touch will be recorded, archived and added to the overall picture. Thus, over the entire period of the exhibition, a drawing will be created on the painting. No state is like the next, the work changes with every visitor.

go hard or go home – a socialist job creation system passed over into neoliberal age

2019/2021 | 600kg sand, 2 shovels, 2 performers, mobile phone | duration: chosen by the performers | Exhibition view HARTE ZEITEN / CIĘŻKIE CZASY, PORT25 Mannheim & Galeria Miejska BWA, Bydgoszcz (PL) 2021

Triggered by an acoustic signal from their mobile phones, two performers start shovelling sand on the pile of the other person. A circular movement evolves. The work is based on the phenomenon of the instrumentalization of labour for propaganda purposes in socialism, among other things, and examines parallel mechanisms that are also used in capitalism: by continuously keeping people busy, they are formally immobilized and deprived of the possibility of making their own responsible decisions.

Performed by Cholud Kassem and Sophie Innmann in 2021, Mathilde Göttel, Pauline Gosselin, Sophie Innmann, Fiona Marten and Daniela Prochaska in 2019.

2019 | table providing numbered stones to be exchanged with visitors‘ phones | Cemeti Institute for Art and Society Yogyakarta (ID)

This intervention challenged the audience to let go of the attachment to the mobile phone for a while, taking a pause to sense our dependency from technology and to question the amount of energy we need to operate it. The exchange and the activity of the phones is recorded from above as a reference to surveillance capitalists‘ practices.
Thank you Muhammad Dzulqornain for having a watchful human eye aswell on the installation during the intervention.
